چکیده

Two barley cultivars were subjected to water stress by immersing their root system in PEG 6000. The relative water content (RWC) of the leaves fell under these conditions and membrane disorganisation was evidenced by the injury index data. The two genotypes differed in their leaf water content under the applied stress. The aim of this work was to examine the relationship between proline accumulation and membrane injury in barley plants suffering from the effects of water deficit. The possible role of proline in membrane protection under conditions of osmotic stress is discussed.

EFFECT OF SILICON PRIMING ON SEEDLING GROWTH, ROOT XYLEME ANATOMY AND ION ACCUMULATION OF BARLEY (Hordeum vulgare L.) TO ALLEVIATE DROUGHT STRESS

The detrimental drought effects could be listed as the loss in dry weight and silicon is known to enhance crop tolerance to drought by increasing seedling growth and hydraulic conductivity. To investigate the effects of silicon priming (0, 1 and 2 mM as sodium silicate), on seedling growth and root anatomy of three barley cultivars (Khatam, Rihane, and Nimrooz) a laboratory experiment was condu...

Effect of salinity stress on physiological characteristics and protein profile of tolerant and sensitive barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) cultivars at vegetative growth stage

To study the variation of plant traits related to stress tolerance in tolerant and sensitive barley cultivars under salt stress conditions, an experiment was carried out as factorial arrangements in completely randomized design in Payame Noor University of Mahabad, Iran in 2018. Application of salinity stress of 250 mM of sodium chloride started from tillering stage, and leaf samples were taken...

Impacts of PEG-6000 pretreatment for barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) seeds on the effect of their mature embryo in vitro culture and primary investigation on its physiological mechanism.

In this paper, we studied polyetheneglycol (PEG) pretreatment effect on the mature embryo culture in vitro by using barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) seeds. Meanwhile, we analyzed and assayed its mineral element and endogenous hormone level. The experimental results were as follows: (1) PEG-6000 imbibition could obviously slow down the water timecourse absorbed by barley seeds; (2) 10% PEG-6000 treat...

Evaluation of Biochemical Traits and Dry Matter Remobilization of Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) in Relay Intercropping with Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) under Deficit Water Stress Conditions

In order to investigate the effect of deficit water stress and different combinations of relay intercropping of chickpea with barley on some biochemical traits and grain yield, a field experiment was conducted at College of Agriculture and Natural Resources of Darab, Shiraz University during 2017-2018 cropping season, as split plot based on a randomized complete block design with three replicat...

Dynamic regulation of the root hydraulic conductivity of barley plants in response to salinity/osmotic stress.

Salinity stress significantly reduces the root hydraulic conductivity (Lpr) of several plant species including barley (Hordeum vulgare). Here we characterized changes in the Lpr of barley plants in response to salinity/osmotic stress in detail using a pressure chamber. Salt-tolerant and intermediate barley cultivars, K305 and Haruna-nijyo, but not a salt-sensitive cultivar, I743, exhibited char...
